YOUR TAROT CARDS CHOOSING YOUR DECK

Research the deck for you at local stores and the internet. Find one that "speaks" to you. If the pictures on the cards give you true meaning or if they confuse you. Remember, most stores will not want you to open new decks. This is because most readers do not want too many other people handling a deck. Rider-Waite is one of the most used decks, but there are many others. If butterflies are your thing, look for a deck with these. Just make sure the deck feels good to you. I like working with one familiar deck, but many readers have several decks. It is, after all, totally up to your needs.

CLEANSING YOUR DECK

There are several ways to cleanse your deck so that it carries only your vibrations. First, discard the box the cards came in. Shuffle the cards for a while, until they seem more comfortable in your hand. This will change their vibration to yours. You can also put the cards in order from Major Arcana to the suits, in order. Some readers put their cards in a window for a full 24 hours. You can do this, also, if you have done a difficult or dark reading. I have heard of readers using smudging (lighting sage and allowing the smoke to permeate the cards). Wiccans will probably want to use an incantation for their cards. Any cleansing will work. How you do it is, again, only up to you.

STORING YOUR CARDS

It is necessary to have something to keep your cards in, for storage. You can purchase all kinds of beautiful bags or boxes for your cards. Some are very ornate, some very simple and plain. I keep mine in a gorgeous remnant of pure emerald green silk. Now, it might be a helpful idea for you to keep the cards right near you, at least for the first few days. Even putting them under your pillow is not a bad idea. These are your cards. A querent may shuffle them, during a reading. But, remember, your vibrations will give you the insight, so readings done by some else, with your cards, is not a good thing.

PREPARING A READING

Get a nice piece of hemmed cloth, pick a color that feels good to you. Place this cloth on the surface you will be reading on, so that your cards will only be on this cloth. That way no vibrations that are already on the surface will "mess up" your cards. Now, you can use incense, candle or whatever helps you focus. The ambience is important as you need to feel relaxed and at ease with the reading.

KNOW YOUR DECK

it is okay to handle your deck. Learn the cards, learn their meanings. Practice, Practice, Practice. Soon you will feel the direction of the reading as soon as you see the spread. Keep in mind, Tarot can see the past and the present influences, but they can only show the future as it MAY happen. Influences can change. Try to make your querent realize that the results of a reading can change if the participants change something. Tarot gives you insight but not concrete answers. We all have free will. Enjoy your cards. You will do well. Best wishes to you all.
